The Motivating Force That Drives You
Today I want to talk about Motivation. I have a few questions first. What motivates you to do what you do? Is your motivation strong enough to keep you going? What drives you to persist? What fuels your desires
?
Motivation is defined as a stimulus, influence, incentive or drive. Motivation is that thing that keeps you going, and going, and going, just like the Energizer Bunny. Motivation is the thing that drives you.
Proverbs 16:26 says The person who labors, labors for himself, for his hungry mouth drives him on.
When a man is hungry he will do anything to satisfy that hunger. Those hunger pangs are the motivating factor that drives him to find food. A hungry man knows that if he doesn’t eat, eventually he will die. Now is that motivation or what?
In business you must have a motivating factor or factors that drive you to be successful. If not, you will struggle continuously. Not only should you have these things that drive you, you must use them daily as a reminder of what needs to be done to be successful.
When finding your motivating factors there are two approaches you can take. You can take the negative approach or the positive approach. An example of the negative approach is looking at all of the bad things that can happen to you if you don’t persist and make things happen. Some negative things are:
- Working for someone else
- Always lacking money
- Dealing with rush hour traffic
- Not having freedom to manage your own time
These are the types of things that are so bad that you don’t want to experience them. The thought of going through these things makes you work hard to accomplish your goals.
The positive approach would be to look at the benefits of doing what needs to be done to get rewarded. Some positive things are:
- Financial freedom
- Total control of your schedule (freedom)
- Working for yourself
- More time with the family
When you take the positive approach, it’s all about accomplishing your goals to obtain pleasure. You will do what you need to do for gratification.
Regardless of what approach you use to motivate yourself, you MUST be persistent in going for the gold. You MUST work hard everyday to achieve your goals. You MUST not take no for an answer. You MUST keep your eyes focused on the end result and not your present circumstance.
CONSISTENCY is the key.
For me, I have a number of motivating factors I use to motivate me but you must find your own.
So find out what truly motivates you (negative or positive) and use it! Find out what feeds your fuel and keep it moving forward.
To YOUR Success,
Personal Development is NOT an Option
That’s right, personal development is not an option. It is a priority and most people don’t understand that. People really don’t understand the importance of developing self first, then working on their business second.
They think if they get involved with a great business with a great product and some great people, they will have great success. That’s not the case.
Abraham Lincoln said “If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend six hours sharpening my ax.” Abraham Lincoln knew that in order to do an effective job at chopping down the tree, he had to prepare properly. In this example YOU are the ax and you must be sharpened (developed) in order to do the job effectively and efficiently. You should work on personal development before attempting to complete any task.
Jim Rohn said to “Learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” People have the misconception that the education or training they received yesterday is good for today. You must consistently be willing to grow and learn in order to be successful
You must make personal development a priority.
If you look at how a car operates, you know the engine is very important and the heartbeat of the car. If the engine is not taken care of, you will have problems. If the engine is not tuned up or serviced regularly, then it will not run efficiently. But once the engine is strong and clicking on all cylinders, then everything else works.
YOU are the engine in your business. You must get filled up with fuel, serviced, and tuned up regularly.
You must make yourself valuable. If you’re not valuable you don’t make much money. Why would someone pay top dollar for a low budget product? It’s not going to happen. Make yourself valuable by developing yourself.
You have to develop you before success can happen. Are you willing to do what it takes to be successful? If so find some good books to read. Listening to some motivational CD’s while in your car or riding the bus. Watch some training DVD’s instead of those dumb television shows that come on all the time. Attend a workshop or training related to personal development or your business.
It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you’re doing something to make yourself better. And make sure you’re doing it everyday. Personal development is a continual process. It is a journey. You never arrive at a destination.
So in order to get that business going the way you want it to, you must consistently be engage in personal development. You must master the art of working on self EVERYDAY.
Go out and make an investment in yourself today and purchase some personal development products.

Motivation for the Home-Based Business Owner
What motivates you to be successful in your home-based business? What are the top 3 reasons you are in business for yourself?
If you can’t answer this question with authority then maybe you ought to re-evaluate what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
If you are in business for yourself, there must be a strong level of self motivation in order for you to be successful.
You have to have something that drives you to succeed. There’s got to be that thing and we like to call it our big “Why”.
Our big “Why” is that factor that keeps us going and drives us to do everything possible to succeed in business. Our big “Why” is that thing that we focus on to feed us unwavering motivation.
So what motivates you to be successful? What is your big “Why”? Check these out and see if any are on your list.
1. FREEDOM
I think most business owners, especially those in Internet marketing, are in the business to create their freedom. Freedom to do whatever they want to do, when they want to do it.
Imagine waking up and not having a strict work agenda you have to follow because you work from the comfort of your home. Now working a home-based business doesn’t mean you don’t work hard, it just means that once you put systems in place, you can create a schedule that is conducive to your liking. Your not punching the time clock like everyone else is doing.
2. FAMILY
Now this is probably the most important factor for people deciding to have a home-based business, family. When it comes to family most people will do anything for them. And I personally want to do a lot of things with my family. Imagine hanging to your child’s school on field trip day or helping out in the classroom. This can be done if you have a successful home-based business and you’re not worried about taking personal leave.
With a home-based business you can also provide money to your family to do things such as trips, college tuition, extracurricular activities and educational experiences. You can provide your family with everything they need and a lot of what they want.
3. MONEY
Let’s be clear, money can solve a lot of our problems. With money we can live debt free which means we can live stress free.
We can provide needed assistance to family members. If you have a elderly parent who still works or needs medical assistance, wouldn’t it be nice if you could provide that without putting a strain on your pocket?
We can give to charities whenever we want to. There a thousands of charities that do good work but they all need donations and if we are financially set, making that monthly donation will not be a problem.
4. CREATIVITY
How many times have you come up with a good idea but your boss is so narrow minded, he shoots is down without giving it a try? There are a lot of bosses who are intimidated by their subordinates and they will do anything to keep you down. They don’t want you to outshine them.
With your own home-based business you can truly let the creative juices flow and express yourself and all your creativity.
These are just a few motivating factors to think about when you start your home-based business.
Make sure you read the Resource Box for more information on a great home-based business and follow the instructions there.

Your PDA Can Help Your Home-Based Business
Just about everybody has a PDA (personal digital assistant) but do we really need them
? We get these tricked out, hyped up cell phones with all the bells and whistles on it but we probably use about 20-30% of the features.
Since you have one you might as well us it to help you build your home-based business and increase your profits. That’s right, don’t waste your money paying the bill (that you’re locked into for 2 years) for technology you’re paying for and not get full use of it. Take advantage of all of that high tech stuff.
What are some of the things you can do? I’m glad you asked.
1. Plan Something-Use your calendar on your phone as a planning tool. Most phones can synch to Outlook so you might as well synch your PDA with your computer so you can have all of your contacts and appointments with you at all times.
2. Get Motivated-All of these PDA’s are mp3 players so while you’re downloading you music, you should also download those motivational, educational or training MP3’s to your phone. Take your training whereever you go so you’re constantly learning and developing your skills. You can also listen to that electronic book you’ve wanted to read but never got around to it.
3. Take Good Voice Notes-I can’t tell you how many times I think of something great while driving my car and no less then 5 minutes, I totally forget it. Get smart (like I finally did) and as soon as a thought comes to your mind, record it on your PDA in the voice notes. Since I started doing that, things have worked out well for me. I no longer depend on my memory to keep good notes. I let my phone do it for me.
4. You’ve Got Mail-Just imagine someone emailing you some important word document or an excel spreadsheet that needs to be reviewed. PDA’s today have that capability where you can receive documents as an attachment and open them on your phone. This way you can reply to someone immediately without telling them you’ll respond after you get back to the office.
5. Keep Everyone Updated-Many of us use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as business tools so why not continue to update your status or send out a tweet from your phone? Just about every phone, if not all of them, have the applications for the phones. Just imagine informing 5,000 of your closest Facebook friends immediately about a product your company is coming out with? Do you think you’ll get some interest in the product? Of course you would so start updating that status and start tweeting.
These are just a few things you can do with you phone but don’t forget functions like texting, surfing the web and conference calls. These also are good tools you can use to help your home-based business.
If you found these tips helpful, please retweet and post it as your Facebook status. Also, leave me a comment to let me know if you liked this information or if you have any additional uses for your PDA.
To YOUR Success,
Rodney
